Expanding Access, Empowering Classrooms

At Polar3D, we’ve always believed that the right tools—paired with the right access—can transform how people learn, create, and collaborate. Our partnership with Bambu Lab represents an exciting step forward in making that vision a reality for more classrooms, makerspaces, and teams around the world.

But this collaboration didn’t happen overnight—it’s rooted in shared values, mutual respect, and some surprising connections.

A Shared History in Innovation

Before joining Polar3D, our former CTO Dan Newman co-founded the open-source Sailfish Firmware project and helped shape the early days of consumer 3D printing. In 2015–2016, Dan developed a triple-leadscrew 3D printer—a design that may have echoed into the innovations we now see in Bambu Lab’s incredibly fast and precise CoreXY machines.

While we can’t say for sure how much influence that design had, it’s always exciting to see good ideas evolve and resurface in new ways.

From Classroom Visits to Collaboration

In mid-2024, members of Bambu Lab’s executive team visited the United States. We had the opportunity to host them on a tour of several Polar Cloud-enabled schools—giving them a firsthand look at how teachers and students interact with 3D printing in real classrooms.

What they saw was inspiring, but also eye-opening:

  • Teachers struggling with local software installs on aging Chromebooks

  • Students eager to print, but limited by complicated access workflows

  • A clear gap between powerful printer hardware and accessible classroom workflows

It quickly became apparent: if we could combine Bambu Lab’s outstanding printer technology with Polar Cloud’s intuitive, browser-based management platform, we could unlock something truly special for education—and for all users who want simplicity without sacrificing control.

Made Possible by the Farm Server SDK

The turning point came with Bambu Lab’s announcement of their Farm Server SDK—a powerful new developer interface that allows third-party platforms like Polar Cloud to connect, monitor, and control Bambu Lab printers securely.

We got to work right away, developing the Polar3D for Bambu Lab Agent: a lightweight Windows application that allows any Bambu Lab printer to be securely linked to a Polar Cloud account. From there, users can manage their print queues, view the camera feed, share access with students or colleagues, and print from anywhere—no USB sticks or local slicing needed.

A Partnership for the Future

We’re proud to officially partner with Bambu Lab to bring this functionality to thousands of schools and users around the world. Whether you're an educator using Chromebooks, a librarian managing a shared printer, or a maker looking for powerful cloud workflows, this collaboration brings new levels of speed, visibility, and simplicity to your 3D printing experience.

We’ll continue working closely with the team at Bambu Lab to expand functionality and support even more use cases in the future.
