Network Configuration & Port Requirements for Bambu Lab Integration
Outline
This article details the network architecture required to successfully run Bambu Lab 3D printers via the Polar Cloud. The integration relies on a local "Print Server" running two specific services: the Polar Agent and the Bambu Agent.
Security & Firewall Policy The Polar Cloud integration is designed to function within strict "Deny All Inbound" educational network environments.
All connections are outbound-initiated.
No inbound port forwarding is required.
The Polar Cloud server does not attempt to initiate unsolicited connections to the local network.
Traffic Flow Description
Job Retrieval: The Polar Agent polls
polar3d.comvia HTTPS to check for new jobs.Internal Handoff: Upon retrieving a job, the Polar Agent transfers the data locally (loopback) to the Bambu Agent.
Printer Command: The Bambu Agent communicates with the Bambu Printer via local LAN (Wi-Fi) using the MQTT protocol.
Port & Protocol Requirements Please ensure the following outbound rules are permitted for the machine hosting the Agents:
Note on Manufacturer Access
The Bambu Agent communicates directly with Bambu Lab servers for firmware verification and proprietary cloud checks. The Bambu Agent does not communicate with Polar Cloud servers. Conversely, Polar Cloud servers do not communicate with the Bambu Agent or the Printer directly.
