Understanding Ownership - Has Printer Been Connected Before?
Outline
When you connect your 3D printer to the Polar Cloud, you've created a secure, one-time, binding connection to our cloud servers. You are now the "Owner" of the 3D printer in the Polar Cloud.
Any future member management (changing owners, adding other users, adding a co-owner or manager, etc.) all needs to take place on the Polar Cloud itself.
Trying to "add someone" or take over ownership from the printer will not work!
How to change printer owners
If you lose access to the account that owned the printer, the person leaves your school or place of employment, or you bought a used printer - here are the steps to get back up and running.
Note: Upon each connection attempt, your printer sends up the USERNAME and PIN in the printer to see if it matches the OWNER's USERNAME AND PIN in the cloud. If it doesn't, it will deny connection to the cloud. Ownership has to be changed in the cloud first, before you can change it in the printer.
- Change out the old owner in the cloud. Go to the printer's MEMBERS tab inside of the Manage dashboard. Invite the new owner to use the printer as a "Manager" and then have them accept the invite. Once that's done, have the old "Owner" click the "Change Owner" button and select the new desired owner. They'll need to accept that invite as well, confirming they want to take over ownership of the printer.
- Change the Username and PIN entered in the printer. Go to the Polar Cloud settings in your printer's LCD screen or web interface and change out the Username and PIN info. You may need to temporarily turn off the cloud plugin in order to change the username and PIN, or your printer might ask you to reboot to accept changes.
If you change the user in the printer before it is changed in the cloud, the printer connection will fail because it is looking for that new user’s info and still finding the old owner!
